Almoners Avenue in Cambridge is a live job, on site since January 2026: a substantial two-storey rear extension with part single-storey rear and side additions, alterations through the whole house, and a raised patio at the back.
Creating the enlarged structure
We took down the existing garage, put in new foundations and drainage, laid a block-and-beam ground floor and installed a large amount of structural steel. New openings join the extension to the original house and set up the bigger, more open living areas the family asked for.
Brickwork, roofs and glazing
The new walls are matching facing brickwork over insulated cavity blockwork. The specification includes pitched tiled roofs with four rooflights, aluminium windows and doors, external cladding, and alterations to the front entrance and canopy.
Whole-house improvements
Inside, the job includes a replacement staircase, underfloor heating to the ground floor, upgraded heating and hot water, renewed plumbing and electrics, plastering, tiling and decoration. The raised patio and the external making-good will connect the new rooms to the garden.
Construction gallery
The photographs run from the original rear garden through groundworks and structural steel, cavity brickwork, the upper-storey masonry and roof carpentry, to the first-fix carpentry inside, with the stud partitions set out under the new roof in September 2026. Completion and handover are still to come; finished photographs will be added when there is something finished to show.
