Selected Public Google Reviews

Choosing a builder is a significant decision. Below is a selection of public Google feedback from people who commissioned Prestige for extensions, complete refurbishments and related building work.

The reviews below are grouped by the kind of work they describe. If you are researching a particular job, the extensions, refurbishment and loft conversion pages set out how each one is quoted and run, and the project records show the same work photographed from start through to handover. One review comes from a structural engineer we work with rather than from a customer, and is labelled as such.

How to Check a Builder’s Reviews

The reviews above are a selection. The full set is public on our Google Business Profile and we would rather you went and read all of them than took our word for which ones to show you. That applies to any builder you are considering, so here is what is actually worth doing.

Read a range of them, not only the five-star ones. What tells you most is how a firm behaves when a job goes less smoothly — whether there is a reply, whether it is defensive, and whether the problem was put right.

Look at the dates. A cluster of reviews all posted in the same week is worth a second look. Reviews spread across years are a better sign than a lot of them arriving at once.

Check the review is about the work you want. A glowing review of a bathroom refit tells you very little about whether a firm can take out a chimney breast or build a two-storey extension. Ours are grouped above by the kind of job for that reason.

Ask to speak to a recent customer. Any builder who is comfortable with their work will arrange it. It is the single most useful thing you can do and almost nobody asks.

Ask what is not in the reviews. Insurance cover, who is actually on site day to day, how variations are priced and what happens if the job overruns. Reviews rarely mention any of it, and it is where most disputes start. Our guide to what a builder’s quotation should include sets out what to ask for in writing.

If you would like to see the work behind the feedback, the project records document jobs stage by stage from site photographs, and about us sets out who runs the company and what we are insured and accredited for.
